Windmill:
Ask the manager for a view of the windmill cap. The inside work which you can still see is much older than the windmill itself, and comes from a demolished mill from North Holland. In 1903, the previous windmill set on fire and a year later, the Verrekijker (telescope) was built. The previous windmill stood for that matter on the place where the big Lindeboom on the Kapelberg is standing now. Here a windmill is standing, since the 14th century, which then belonged to the convent of the Kapelberg.
Maria chapel:
Directly next to the windmill, you will find the Kapelberg with the Maria chapel. In earlier times, there was a convent. The Kapelberg is the highest point in the surrounding and therefore even a good place for a chapel (even for a windmill for that matter). When it is good weather, mass is often read in the chapel. Often, even marriage takes place. Please, could there be silence during the mass?
Kruiswegpark:
When you standing at the main entrance of the windmill, to your left you will see a gateway. Directly nearest to the gateway, which leads to the Maria chapel, the Kruiswegpark begins on the right. It is worth walking along this way, information about the procession is available.
Elzendbos:
At the rear exit of the mill, the Elzendbos begins on the right. It is now the ownership of the Gelders landscape, but earlier it has been used as motor cross-terrain (motor cross Bergharen, was also frequently shown on TV). In the last ice age, a river dune existed and doing a hike here is worth it.
Hikes:
In the surrounding of Bergharen there are many hikes set out. Give it a go, it allows you to see much of the surrounding (river landscape, forest, cities, towns, castles and not to be forgotten windmills).
Local products:
Farmers in the surrounding offers many local products. There are fruit and vegetables but also cheese, honey, jam and even wine and snails. You can visit the farms; some even provide you with a guided tour.
Cycling:
The land of Maas and Waal is excellent cycling terrain. There are many cycling routes, as well as long and short. Bikes are to rent from Herckenrath in Horssen.
Shops:
In the town, there is a small supermarket and a good butchery available. The big supermarket close by (Loeffen) can be found in Winssen (at the end of the way to the left, after 4 km you will see Loeffen on the right. In Wijchen or a bit further Nijmegen you will have more of a variety.
