An accomplished interplay of nostalgia and modernity in a historical house, for an unforgettable holiday for couples, families and larger families
This heritage-protected building from the year 1775 is in the centre of Ickelheim, part of the spa town of Bad Windsheim, to the west of Nürnberg. The house offers two holiday apartments (atraveo nos. 705681 on the ground floor and 705691 on the first floor), each for four people, with harmonising interiors and decoration.
The apartments can be booked either separately or together. When booking the upper-floor apartments, it is possible to book the two additional bedrooms in the attic for four further people. The apartments in the restored house are ideal for culture and nature lovers, gourmets and the health conscious. All the materials used in the house have been processed according to ecological factors. In 2008 the owner bought an empty, dilapidated and neglected farmhouse. After stripping it back carefully and restoring it expertly, the “Snow White” has awakened again and invites you to enjoy a holiday in a historical setting. It offers its guests a warm atmosphere, combining tradition and aesthetics. The aim of the renovation was to preserve as many original features as possible and to restore the layout and room usage of the time when it was built. Therefore the newly built bathroom is outside of the old house. Many details reveal the old history of the house and its residents. It provides an ideal setting for a holiday as a couple, with friends or with the whole family. What could not be restored or repaired was reconstructed according to the original, such as the windows, the floorboards and the clay tiles in the kitchen. With the design, the owner wanted to use mainly stylistically appropriate furniture from the first half of the 19th century. In areas where a museum character would be at the expense of well-being and comfort, he has chosen high-quality, functional and modern furniture items. Every surface and item has been carefully chosen or designed. Plastic, plasterboard and concrete have been almost entirely avoided. It was a conscious choice not to include a TV, in order to give the guests staying there a sense of past times.
Outside the house there is a terrace with garden furniture and you can enjoy a grill evening outdoors. You can borrow bicycles and use the parking space on site for your car.
The house is not far from the centre, with shopping facilities, supermarkets, restaurants and a tennis court within 300 metres. The spa town of Bad Windsheim is 6km away. There are medieval villages and towns with many museums, as well as green landscapes and lakes in the area, worth day trips.
Large holiday apartment for up to 6 people
The listed timber-framed house Ickelhaus 2 looks like it belongs to another era. It is at the end of a quiet side street in Ickelheim.
You will feel at home straight away in the charmingly designed apartment AD1829. Solid wooden floorboards and historical chalk slabs, the mixture of old and new, historical and modern furnishing and historical tiles in the entrance area and kitchen ensure an exceptional atmosphere. It measures 110m² on two floors and can accommodate up to 6 people. You can cook together in the fully-equipped kitchen (with an additional historical French wood-burning stove) and relax on the sofa in the wood-panelled living room with its historical cast-iron fireplace stove, or in the cosy dining corner. On the ground floor there are two solid wood single beds and on the upper floor there is an iron bed and a sofa bed. The bedroom windows are fitted with insect screens. There is a generous modern bathroom with a walk-in shower. A washing machine, iron and ironing board are available for shared use. Firewood is available free of charge. Games, books and magazines are available.
The large and secluded garden provides various seating areas, a campfire area, a grill and a little herb garden, which you can help yourselves to. Three bicycles can be borrowed free of charge, subject to availability. NEW: from 2018 we will be offering our guests an old wood sauna with a relaxation room.
A historical flair, a stylish interior and individuality make this apartment amidst nature quite a special experience. The AD1829 apartment can be combined with the Lichtblick apartment by means of an internal connecting door, so that larger families or groups of friends can spend a relaxing holiday together.
