Charmingly restored village house on the hills above the Adriatic bay Merascica

The holiday house is in the middle of the old shepherding village Stivam on the Croatian island Cres. The sea is only a 15-minute walk away along a picturesque serpentine road, or five minutes by car. The house is right in the old heart of the village near the church and next to the grocery shop. In front of the house there is a meadow with olive trees and the surroundings are characterised by green fields, macchia and old sheep pastures. You can go walking, gather herbs and on cycle tours in the immediate neighbourhood and enjoy water sports such as diving, snorkelling or windsurfing down by the sea.

The old shepherd’s house was restored carefully in 2016 in the original style, combining modern comfort with the charm of days gone by. It has two bedrooms, a bathroom with a shower bath, a big kitchen and a living room with a balcony. The two bedrooms on the upper floor look out directly over vines, rosemary and the village rooftops down towards the sea. They are furnished with double beds. Much of the furniture is original pieces from the start of the previous century. Mattresses and covers are of course modern and recently renewed. The bathroom is also on the upper floor and is in the hallway between the two bedrooms. It has a little window that also looks out towards the sea. The big kitchen with a dining space is on the ground floor and is equipped with everything you need. The special charm lies in the preserved old cooking fireplace, which the modern electric stove is now set into. Here you can also find antique furniture mixed with modern pieces, exuding quite a special atmosphere. The living room is opposite the kitchen, joined by the hallway. It has a sofa bed that a further person can sleep on. It also has a flatscreen TV with satellite channels. Internet is available via a loadable stick.

The balcony leads of the kitchen and has a further dining space, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view over the fig tree towards the church and the old sheep pastures in the distance. On the front area there is a generous grill area under a lovely archway. You can set up the table and chairs from the balcony there and dine right next to the grill. There is a washing line in the garden for drying your laundry in the sun.

You can enjoy a sea view from all the windows, modern comfort in an original atmosphere, just 1200 metres from the nearest beach.

In the immediate neighbourhood you can find a grocery shop, a church and a highly recommended Croatian restaurant. There are other lovely beaches (including a nudist beach) in the neighbouring villages by the sea, with cafes, various restaurants, supermarkets, a post office, an ATM and in summer a medical service for tourists. Apart from the various beaches there are other little pebbled bays along the coast to explore. You can hire boats and chug along from bay to bay. Away from the water, nature will entice you with hikes, walks or cycle tours. Blossoming lavender and sage, old pine trees and rosemary bushes make the nature especially enjoyable.

    “Liebevoll renoviertes altes Haus in der Mitte von Stivan. Die Ausstattung ist für den Preis vollkommen OK. Bei vielen Häusern scheitert es oft an den Betten bzw. am Schlafkomfort aber hier ist das absolut nicht der Fall. Die Betten waren sehr bequem. Die Küche hat alles was es in einem Urlaub braucht. Ein Grill ist vorhanden. Es sind nur 30 m bis zum kleinen Einkaufsmarkt und 50 m bis zur örtlichen Kirche. Parkmöglichkeiten an der Straße vorhanden.

    Das Pärchen, das das Haus vermietet ist sehr nett und beide sprechen fließend deutsch. Sie haben uns bei jeder Frage die wir hatten mit dem passenden Ratschlag geholfen.”
